Charity Donation Drive
Aug 26th, 2007 by The Handmaidens
At every Handmade Market, The Handmaidens partner with a local charity to organize a raffle to benefit their cause. At the show, visitors can make a suggested donation to the group. In return for the donation, we give them a raffle ticket for a chance to win a gift basket filled-to-the-brim with handcrafted goods and vouchers for services that are donated by our Charity Sponsors.
For the event on November 7th, we have chosen The Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC, an organization whose mission it is to eliminate hunger in central and eastern North Carolina.
About Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina
Established in 1980, the Food Bank is a non-profit organization providing food to people at risk of hunger in 34 central and eastern North Carolina counties. Last year, the Food Bank collected and distributed nearly 37 million pounds of food through 800 partner agencies including soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters, and children’s after-school programs.
Hunger is, unfortunately, still an acute problem in central and eastern North Carolina. Every day more than 480,000 people in the Food Bank’s service area grapple with hunger. Most of those in need are children. Others are the elderly and the working poor, who must choose between food and other basic necessesities like medication and shelter.
These are the businesses that have generously donated goods and services to The Handmade Market’s charity raffle to benefit The Food Bank on November 7th 2009
