Annie Grimes Williams of Coppertide is back again for another Handmade Market this Saturday, and we can’t wait to see what she’s been enameling lately! Her work is organic and saturated with color.
How do you define and measure success for yourself and your business? Success for me is more about being happy with my work, the quality of my craftsmanship, and the ability to push myself to new levels rather than actual monetary success. That is a definite plus for sure, as I am trying to make a living with my work, but at the end of the day, if I feel like I’ve pushed myself to reach new goals (and I set a pretty high standard for myself), fed on my inspirations, and am still thirsty for more, then I feel pretty successful.
When work gets really intense, do you lean in or step back? Tell us how and why that approach works for you and your biz. I feel like I work best under pressure. So if I have a deadline, whether it’s an outside deadline or one I set for myself, I really buckle down and get things done. It’s easy to get distracted when you set your own schedule, so I definitely do best when there is something real to work toward.
How do you connect with other creative types? Does this happen online, in person, or some of both? Both really. It’s easy to get holed up in my studio and not to other people for a few days, and that’s when the online connections come in handy. But I love teaching workshops because it allows me to be around other creative people and really feed off that energy, both students and other instructors. I’m also a member of Piedmont Craftsmen’s Guild, which is a great source of creative energy among craftspeople of all media.
Is there a new item that you’d like to share? I’ve expanded my SeaPods line and am including more long, sling style necklaces in line with my own take on current fashion.
What’s your favorite tv show to binge-watch? I’m not a huge TV person, but I do love that they show five episodes of “Friends” starting about 11pm, right as I’m winding down for the night.
Which Breakfast Club character are you? Which Breakfast Club character am I? Probably Allison. :)
So come by THIS Saturday at Cobblestone Hall to see Annie’s beautiful jewelry and bring her one of those sandwiches!
