Artist Spotlight: Judah Ross

Oami Powers of Judah Ross creates unique womens apparel designed and expertly crafted in Raleigh, NC. Her spring/summer collection includes lots of dresses, with hand painted details and vintage ribbon accents.

What are the products that you’re bringing to The Handmade Market, and what inspired your newest creations?
This time I’ll be bringing more dresses, inspired by living in Raleigh, which is too hot for jeans during the summer! Also, I’m making some cute tank tops and skirts.

What is your most treasured art, craft, or design tool and why?
My tiny library of design and art books. I’m constantly going back to them for inspiration.

What is your favorite creative soundtrack ?
Right now¬† I’m obsessed with Chancha Via Circuito, an Argentinian musician. I also listen to a lot of flamenco while I’m working, it’s got a great rhythm for getting things done.

What advice would you give a starting artist / crafter / designer?
Be persistent.

Which artist(s) are you most excited to see at The Handmade Market?
Rosy Revolver! I’m in love with her jewelry, and you may find my booth empty while I’m over at hers, drooling. I’m also excited to see what new work Tiny Peepers will have, I adore her new, two color guitar and banjo print tea towels.

Spring is such a glorious season in Raleigh. Where is your favorite place to play outside?
My backyard! We just moved in and I’m reveling in having a lovely outdoor space of my own.

Bieber or Timberlake?

Swing by the Judah Ross booth on Saturday, April 23, and see if you can resist staying ahead of the southern summer heat by picking out a perfect handmade dress or skirt.
