Help Empower Young Minds, Support the Arts

At every HandRaF logomade Market, The Handmaidens partner with a local charity to organize a raffle benefiting their cause. Shoppers who make a donation to the charity are entered in a drawing to win goods and services donated by local and national businesses as well as some of the artists and craftspeople participating in the event.

Our partner on Saturday, November 8 is Read and Feed, whose objective is to ensure that low income elementary students are afforded every opportunity to succeed by learning to read with confidence.

About Read and Feed

Since 2006, Read and Feed has been a literacy advocate for low income and disadvantaged families in Wake County, North Carolina. Read and Feed has developed a unique model called Feed the Reader Road Show to teach and encourage low income elementary aged families to read together. Using a child-centric environment, books, food, and tutors/mentors in a mobile classroom, children ages 5-10 years old are given skills to become confident students.

How can you help?

Call for Charity Raffle Sponsors!

Plans are underway for The Handmade Market on November 8. One thing we still need some help with — donations for the Charity Raffle baskets. Can you contribute something {a good or service} or ask a friend to donate? Since The Handmade Market began way back in 2006, The Handmaidens have supported a local charity at each event. The accumulated charity collections over the years total more than $11,000!

Save a Life, Support the Arts

Triangle Pets AliveAt every Handmade Market, The Handmaidens partner with a local charity to organize a raffle benefiting their cause. Shoppers who make a donation to the charity are entered in a drawing to win goods and services donated by local and national businesses as well as some of the artists and craftspeople participating in the event.

Our partner on May 3rd is Triangle Pets Alive; their mission is to save pets from area shelters who are on kill lists.

About Triangle Pets Alive

Triangle Pets Alive is an 100% volunteer driven rescue organization that depends on community involvement to carry out its mission. This rescue organization is dedicated to taking healthy, treatable, trainable pets from shelters. Rescued companions are first fostered in loving homes to acclimate them to the kind of environment they deserve. The fostering process is fundamental to Triangle Pets Alive’s saving the lives of the many neglected and abused pets that enter traditional shelter settings. The goal is to successfully find forever homes for each one.

Their work doesn’t stop at rescuing companion animals but also extends to educating us, the general public, about successfully and lovingly caring for our pets to keep them out of shelters in the first place.
