At the market, visitors can make a suggested donation at to the charity at the entrance, and in return receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win a gift basket filled-to-the-brim with handcrafted goods and vouchers for services that are donated by our generous Charity Sponsors.

This May we have partnered with Triangle Pets Alive, a 100% volunteer animal rescue organization. TPA’s mission: rescue healthy, treatable pets from euthanasia and place them in foster homes until adopted. We’ll share more of Triangle Pets Alive’s story with you soon — stay tuned.Join us on Saturday, May 3 for The Handmade Market. Oh what fun!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Yesterday marked the 16th edition of The Handmade Market. We speak for the more than 50 fabulous participating artists and makers when we say that we’re grateful that you chose to shop local with us!

Did you get in on the Early Bird shopping this time? Early enough to score one of the stylish new tote bags?

totebag CollageThanks to Jenn Hales of Jenn Hales Illustration and Design for capturing what a Handmaiden actually looks like — or at least what a Handmaiden looks like this year! This super-crafter hero you’ve seen on all the posters and promos is a great representation of all super-crafters — and there was a room full of them yesterday!

A VERY special thank you goes to our bag sponsors! With generous donations from Pullen Arts Center, DECO Raleigh, Epona & Oak, and City Market we were able to pass out those pretty yellow tote bags to the first 500 shoppers. We also want to thank Carolina Fiber Fest for their continued support of The Handmade Market as a sponsor.

But our biggest shout out goes to YOU, the contributor to our chosen charity Hospice of Wake County. YOU, who gave a little cash so that Hospice can continue to give to others. Together with YOU, we raised $657 for these great local caregivers!

If you have a story to share about your day at The Handmade Market, we would really love to hear from you. If you took photos at the event, we would love for you to add them to The Handmade Market group on Flickr.

Support a Beautiful Organization while purchasing beautiful work!

Hospice of Wake CountyAt every Handmade Market, The Handmaidens partner with a local charity to organize a raffle benefiting their cause. Shoppers who make a donation to the charity are entered in a drawing to win goods and services donated by local and national businesses as well as some of the artists and craftspeople participating in the event.

For the event on November 9th, we are partnering with an organization near and dear to The Handmaidens’ hearts, Hospice of Wake County. This compassionate organization serves as a Partner in Caring through one of life’s most challenging journeys and is the oldest, largest and most experienced hospice organization serving Wake, Durham, Johnston, Franklin and Harnett counties.

About Hospice of Wake County

Hospice’s mission is to imbue individuals, their families and the community with the power to embrace the end of life journey.

Since 1979, Hospice of Wake County has been and continues to provide physical, emotional and spiritual care to those living with an advanced illness, their caregivers, and those who have lost a loved one, regardless of age, race, religion or financial circumstance.

How can you help?

From 11:00- 5:00 there is no admission to The Handmade Market; however, cash donations are accepted in exchange for tickets for the semi-annual charity raffle. The Handmade Market offers guests the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets to win glorious gift baskets, each full of wonderful items and valued at $100 or more. Donations of at least $3 or more allow you to purchase tickets to win a basket.

Come to The Handmade Market, help support a community of compassion

Put this Saturday, November 9th on your calendar and make The Handmade Market part of your holiday shopping. At Cobblestone Hall you will meet talented artists and purchase beautiful work all while supporting a most needed and esteemed organization.

Call for Charity Raffle Sponsors!

Plans are underway for The Handmade Market on November 9. One thing we still need some help with — donations for the Charity Raffle baskets. Can you contribute something {a good or service} or ask a friend to donate? Since The Handmade Market began way back in 2006, The Handmaidens have supported a local charity at each event. The accumulated charity collections over the years total more than $10,000!
