Sonya Coulson Rook is the artist and designer behind Metamorphosis. Sonya makes handcrafted sterling silver jewelry and incorporates found objects, vintage materials, metalwork, and enamel in her designs.
What do you make, and what inspires you?
I work with metal, mainly sterling silver. I’m inspired by nature and history, and I like to incorporate natural elements and vintage objects into my pieces.
What is your favorite spot or thing to do in Raleigh, Durham, or Chapel Hill?
My favorite spot is probably the NC Museum of Art; I can’t wait until it reopens in April after the expansion. I also love going to the Flea Market at the fairgrounds and the Gresham Lake Antique Mall to hunt for treasures.
What music do you listen to while crafting or creating?
Dinosaur Jr, Tori Amos, and lately The Clash. I also listen to a lot of NPR podcasts.
Beer or wine:
Wine
Dark, milk, or white chocolate:
Definitely dark!
