Patty Alder from Lepidopteran Art
Describe your style, influences, inspiration, and what you plan to bring:
I am an entomologist with North Carolina State University and have always been fascinated and amazed by insects, particularly butterflies. They are such delicate beauties, many of them with incredibly vibrant wings. They are natural works of art! By creating jewelry using real butterfly wings, these natural works of art can by preserved and enjoyed, even after the butterflies have passed. No butterflies are ever harmed or killed in the making of my jewelry. I obtain my butterflies from butterfly farms and conservatories after they have been allowed to live their full lifespan and have died naturally.
I plan on bringing necklaces, chokers, earrings, cuff bracelets, and cuff links – all made with real butterfly wings. My bestsellers tend to be cuff bracelets, earrings, and my tear drop pendants.
In your experience, what has been your best venue for selling your work:
What is your favorite way to put yourself in the mood for creativity?:
I tend to create better alone. I usually have some music going and sometimes enjoy a glass of wine while I create.
What is the weirdest job you have ever had?:
Would have to say grad school
Which artist at The Handmade Market are you excited to see/meet?:
There are so many great ones to choose from, but probably most excited to see work by Thicket.
