Tanya from Spirit Animal Paintings
Describe your style, influences, inspiration, and what you plan to bring:
I’m inspired to paint spirit animals from the meditative journeys I go on. I use watercolors in a galaxy night sky style. I offer original paintings, art prints, written spirit animal symbolism cards, and spirit animal readings.
Which artist at The Handmade Market are you excited to see/meet?:
I’m most interested to see Seana Yair Monley Rodriguez (Tierra Sol) work. I love how they bring handmade pottery and cactuses together. I made pottery for 12 years and I’ve recently been developing a closer relationship with cactuses, so I’m curious to see what magical things they will bring to the show.
What is your favorite way to put yourself in the mood for creativity?:
I find that doing some free dance really helps get me in the zone for painting. Especially if I make it fun and silly by dancing with ribbons. I dance out all of my self-conscious feelings. Shanking them out of my system so I can let inspiration flow through me more clearly.
What advice would you give to an artist just starting out and/or what is the best advice you have received for your art & business?:
Create a world for yourself to play in! Ask yourself, what type of world would you like to play in – and then create that place for yourself. I try not to focus on creating something that will please everyone (which is impossible). Instead, I try to create an environment and products that I enjoy, which then naturally attracts the people who resonate with it.
