Because Mall is a Four Letter Word

Support the Arts. Fight Hunger.

FBCENC_main_CMYKAt every Handmade Market, The Handmaidens partner with a local charity to organize a raffle benefiting their cause. Shoppers who make a donation to the charity are entered in a drawing to win goods donated by participating artists and others. Our 20th Market is no exception!

Our partner, Saturday,  May 7, is The Food Bank of  Central and Eastern North Carolina; their mission is to ensure no one goes hungry in Central and Eastern North Carolina.

About The Food Bank of Central  and Eastern  North Carolina

The nonprofit Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina was created over 30 years ago to provide food for individuals and families living with hunger. It serves 34 of North Carolina’s 100 counties through 800 partnering agencies. Soup kitchens, shelters, pantries and other programs who serve children and adults act as distribution centers for the Food Bank of  Central & Eastern North Carolina.

Each year Food Bank sets goals to help stay true its mission. This year’s four-fold goals:

  • Raise $9.2 million dollars in annual revenue which will enable us to maintain and expand our services. Additionally develop 3-year strategic plan for annual revenue and communications and marketing.
  • Obtain and distribute between 58-59 million pounds of vital food and non-food essentials in our 34 county service area to over 800 emergency and non-emergency non-profits. Ensure new Feeding America Member Food Safety requirements are met.
  • Develop and strengthen Kids Summer Meals, Weekend Power Packs and School Pantry programs. Begin senior outreach initiative.
  • Fight hunger and promote healthy eating habits by increasing our focus on nutrition.

Although The Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina is able to meet and exceed its goals, the work hard to eliminate hunger the crisis is still great. They need our help.
