The Handmade Market Spotlight: Peppertrain Jewelry

Kaitlin from Peppertrain Jewelry

Describe your style, influences, inspiration, and what you plan to bring:
I will be bringing lots of new earring shapes and also some classic Peppertrain faves! I’ve personally been wearing the earrings everyday. The Jessie in black and stone are very popular and also the new Crescent.

My style has changed a lot over the last few years which is really how Peppertrain got started. I looked at my jewelry one day when I was getting dressed, and I liked nothing. So, I started experimenting with various mediums. I was gifted some Polymer Clay from my bosses at the time and then started creating with it….and here I am 3 years later.

In your experience, what has been your best venue for selling your work:
I have had great experiences selling at holiday markets as well as on my personal website. Currently my wholesale account are starting to grow and doing really well. Instagram is such a powerful tool as well.

Which artist at The Handmade Market are you excited to see/meet?:
This is my first time doing The Handmade Market, so I’m excited to network and meet new people. I love the ladies of Zass, so I’m excited to see their new styles and set up!

What is your favorite way to put yourself in the mood for creativity?:
When I’m actually sitting down to “make” I prefer to be alone with either my favorite music OR a classic TV show (golden girls or friends) that I’ve seen 1000 times on in the background. As far a fuel for creative energy – being outside, art, blogs and travel.

What is the weirdest job you have ever had?:
HA! I wish I had a super weird job to talk about. I’ve worked some sort of retail my whole life; whether that was a manager or a merchandiser since college. I worked at a mall for a few years and came across some really crazy/weird customers and situations. People pretending they were pregnant so they could steal clothes under their clothes or hide clothes in a stroller (with no actual baby)

What advice would you give to an artist just starting out and/or what is the best advice you have received for your art & business?:
Just start! So many people talk about what they want to do and never actually bring it to fruition. You just have to start somewhere. Don’t let every detail distract you at the beginning because SO many things are going to change along the way. Also, don’t let the hiccups throw you off course. Stay focused + have fun!

What is the best comment or compliment you have ever received for your work?
Gosh, I have such nice clients who say such nice things. I really love when I get feedback from clients who received Peppertrain as a gift from someone super special to them! I just feels so personal and sweet!
