The Handmade Market Spotlight: Port and Starbird Creations

Erica Pigage from Port and Starbird Creations

Describe your style, influences, inspiration, and what you plan to bring:
I love fabrics! I’m pretty much obsessed with finding unique, one of a kind prints to make my creations. (My fabric stash is both impressive and obnoxious). I love nature and animals and find inspiration in both. My style is relaxed and fun and I hope others find joy in each item they purchase.
My fox face series has been my best seller, by far. Who can resist a cute baby wearing a fox face onesie? (-;
I have had repeat business and lots of compliments regarding my standard bibs. They are soft, durable and adorable!

In your experience, what has been your best venue for selling your work:
Instagram has been an amazing tool to showcase my creations. It has taken my business to a new level, for sure.

Which artist at The Handmade Market are you excited to see/meet?:
Modiuqe Couture And Afternoon Owl Designs

What is your favorite way to put yourself in the mood for creativity?:
I am most creative in my sewing room, surrounded by my tools and fabrics. I love listening to music or binge watching Bravo tv. I also love getting lost in the aisles of a fabric store or online shopping for fabric. Looking at and feeling the fabrics gets my mind exited and ready to create!

What is the weirdest job you have ever had?:
Beach badge checker on the New Jersey shore

What advice would you give to an artist just starting out and/or what is the best advice you have received for your art & business?:
Be true to you. Take criticism and continue to grow. Surround yourself with other makers who inspire you.

What is the best comment or compliment you have ever received for your work?
When someone seeks out my items based on a gift they received of my work. I have had many customers rave about my bibs, that they used them until their children outgrew them. I also love hearing how much people love the prints I use. I love finding them and it’s rewarding to hear others love them too!
