Vendor Spotlight: Ablutions Spa

Monica Myers makes make natural and organic face, body, and spa products for her business Ablutions Spa.

What do you make, and what inspires you?
I make skin care and bath products, and my initial inspiration was an obsessive love of bathing as ‘me’ time. That led to an interest in the spiritual rituals around the world related to bathing and water purification ceremonies. The Japanese in particular really personify the experience for me. They’ve juxtaposed minimalism with a bit of self-indulgence at their wonderful bathhouses. I love the combination of mindfulness, family, relaxation and personal restoration in this one ritual.

What is your favorite spot or thing to do in Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill?
I love downtown Raleigh and especially City Market. I love eating and shopping there, and now, I’m working there at Epona and Oak, offering spa services using my product line.

What music do you listen to while crafting or creating?
Boards of Canada, Tortoise, Mice Parade — I like happy, mellow, ambient music while working. I think that energy makes it into the products, too.

Guilty pleasure:
I get up when I feel like it. I’d rather work late than get up early.

Beer or wine:
Make mine a margarita please, on the rocks with salt.

So be sure to visit the Ablutions Spa table on Saturday, November 7th to see (and smell!) Monica’s natural bath and body products and maybe make an appointment for some ‘me’ time with a spa treatment.
