About

The Handmaidens- Leeann Hynes, Kiona Elliott, Lois Peterson and Tracey JohnsonThe Handmaidens

The Handmaidens are a North Carolina collective of artists, designers, and crafters who create handcrafted adornments for body and home.

In 2004, we joined together to participate in collaborative trunk shows and local shopping events to promote our individual businesses and each other’s work.

We are the founders and producers of Raleigh, NC’s The Handmade Market and Urban Vintage.

The Handmade Market

The Handmade Market marked it’s 25th show in Raleigh, North Carolina before the show was retired in November 2018. Women’s Health Magazine touted the Handmade Market as a “best bet” and Buzzfeed listed this show as one of the top “35 Indie Craft Fairs Every Creative Person Needs To Visit”. Each show brought an attendance of over 2,000 people and raised a great deal of money for that event’s chosen charity. The show was produced by The Handmaidens, and was made possible with the generous support of Event Sponsors and Volunteers.

Urban Vintage

Urban Vintage was born from an idea to bring affordable collections to the Raleigh area for a temporary pop-up shopping event. The first Urban Vintage took place in August of 2015. Vendors reported record breaking sales and crowds filled the venue looking for found, historical and kitschy objects seen on some of the trending designer TV shows. The last Urban Vintage show was held in March of 2019.
