Because Mall is a Four Letter Word

The Handmaidens

The Handmaidens are a collective of four North Carolina artists, designers and crafters who create handcrafted adornments for body and home. Formed in 2004, the collective works together to participate in local and regional shopping events and trunk shows.

In May 2006, The Handmaidens produced their first sponsored shopping event, The Handmade Market. Featuring 40 independent designers from North Carolina and beyond, The Handmade Market provided the Triangle community with an unique opportunity to support and discover the flourishing local and regional independent art, craft, and design scene.

Kiona Elliott is owner and creator of Lucky Accessories. Launched in 2003, Lucky Accessories is Kiona’s handmade jewelry line which she sells online, at artist’s markets and through select retailers nationwide. When not in her studio, Kiona devotes her time to her family, cooking, or spending as much time outdoors as possible.

Leeann Hynes is the owner of Mule Train Creative Company which combines her love of mixed media art, origami and jewelry making. After studying for a degree in Fine Art, Leeann  apprenticed under a jewelry designer for several years, honing her skills with wire work and stone work. After starting her own brick and mortar shop with her two sisters  in 2009, Leeann found she had no time left for her jewelry designs and took up origami flowers as a way to create something between doing inventory reports and checking out customers.  Always interested in learning new techniques, her kusudama flowers became a big hit with brides and shoppers. When her shop closed and she found she had more time on her hands, Leeann went back to her first love; painting. Mule Train Creative Company was created in 2018 as the outlet for all the art forms that she loves with room still to discover more.

Lois Peterson IS It’s By Design. With a degree in art from WAY back in the day, Lois has always worked in some creative way. When her creative passions turned into income it was first in custom painted tiles and tile murals for homes. It’s By Design was born. The name was chosen because Lois could imagine that her artistic interests had the potential to change. In fact, it’s by design! Eventually, jewelry design took a foothold. That lasted 15 years! Now she is back to her roots, drawing and painting. Her watercolors are printed on cards, prints and tea towels. Life is great, especially since her family has grown by four grandchildren in the last two years!

Patina South is a collection of art and vintage, made or handpicked by Tracey Johnson. Her evolving inventory combines her love of painting and building with plundering through flea markets, estate sales and industrial history. When she is not traveling around with her vintage camper full of goodies, Tracey likes to relax at her mini farm-an hour west of Raleigh.
