Steve Dicks from Pet Wants East Raleigh

Describe your style, and what you plan to bring. What are your bestsellers?:
We are Steve and Amy, owners of Pet Wants East Raleigh. We strive to provide the best fresh, natural & healthy food, treats and remedies for dogs and cats. Some of our best sellers we will have with us are our Homemade Beef Jerky and Sweet Pawtatoes, sure to have your pup drooling. We will also have our natural healing products such as our Paw Wax made with a blend of safe essentials oils to protect and repair your furbaby’s paws in extreme hot or cold conditions as well as aid in healing dry and rough pads and snouts. All items are always available on our website as well, providing Free Local delivery to East and South Raleigh, Wake Forest, Wendell, Rolesville, Garner, Clayton Fuquay-Varina and parts of Cary, Durham and Chapel Hill.

Regardless of trends, who are your style muses, how do they influence you?:
While we make our own line of treats and remedies, we love to partner with other great local makers of treats that have the same goal of providing healthy, natural alternatives for your pets. Some of our current partners are Oliver’s Collar from Durham, On Point Pupcakes from Chapel Hill and Furbaby’s Desserts, Goodboy Dog Treats, and Zookies Cookies all from Raleigh. We also love partnering with and supporting local no-kill shelters and rescues such as Second Chance Adoptions, Cause for Paws, Safe Haven Cat Rescue, Black Dog Rescue, Hope For Animals to name a few.

What are the things customers seek you out for?:
We love showing owners new and interesting healthy chews and treats that they may have never heard of like yak cheese, elk antlers, tracheas and other interesting body parts that are great chew alternatives that provide not only great chewing, but also health benefits like collagen for skin and coat or glucosamine for joints and bones. Our fresh made jerky is always a big hit at events. Choices of beef, chicken and turkey are always favorites of the pups. You may even enjoy a piece of our homemade beef jerky

How did you learn your craft or business?:
Both Amy and I have always had a love and passion for animals throughout our like. Growing up on a farm, Amy has raised and cared for everything from dogs and cats, to horses, cows and chickens. While always looking to provide healthy foods and alternatives to ourselves and our kids, we started to look more into what we were giving our own pets. This quickly became confusing and overwhelming when looking online or in big box stores. Talking with other pet owners, friends and family we found that they felt the same. The more we got into it we thought what if we took a lot of the guess work out of owners looking for the same things and offered a store that only sold the best healthy options and not all the other stuff??? After months of research and training we began Pet Wants East Raleigh in June of 2018. We’ve much love and support from our customers for helping give the best care to their furbaby’s

What is your favorite way to put yourself in the mood for creativity or business mode?:
We love being out at markets, especially ones that allow pets to attend. It’s great to spend the day meeting other dogs, cats and even a duck or pig every now and then :) We also enjoy deliveries when the owners are home and we get to meet the pups and kittens that we are delivering to. Crazy enough they know we are there bringing them something.

What advice would you give to an artist or business just starting out and/or what is the best advice you have received for your art or business?:
Be prepared for many long days and patience. Have a good plan and thought out budget for expenses. Stay consistent, but be flexible to change. Most importantly always provide exceptional service. We receive feedback and comments all the time from other local business owners and especially our customers. That amount of love and support since beginning has been so great. The best advice I was given early on was to be as consistent as possible from where we will be at markets, to the products we offer and most importantly the service we provide.

Anything to add?:
We love what we do. If you see us and have a question, suggestion or comment please stop by and see us. We love talking to our customers, especially the furry ones
