Artist Spotlight: Flutter

Flutter was started by two friends, Michelle Lacey and Emily Morrison, who are inspired by nature and have a passion for color and texture.

What will you be selling at the Market, and what inspires you to make them?
We will be selling home decor and fashion accessories. We have tea towels, placemats, and pillows for your home, and scarves and clutches for you. Both of our new favorites are our seasonal items- our bird ornaments and our stockings! The new color combinations are killer, and the printed patterns and stitching will make your home fancy for the holidays! Our products are inspired by nature and made with natural materials.

What’s your favorite new (or newish) art/craft/design blog?
Pawling Print Studio is a huge inspiration for us. They are two young ladies around our age heading down a similar path just a few steps ahead of us. They also make homegoods, and we love their simple, yet refined designs.

What’s your favorite independently owned store in the Triangle area?
Askew Taylor , hands down. We love Kirk and his stupendous customer service!

Who’s your favorite Muppet?
Fozzie Bear because he is a lot like us. We are quirky and weird and love making bad jokes.

Mad Men or True Blood?
We don’t watch either one, but out of the two, we would definitely go for True Blood.

Snooki, JWoww, or The Situation?
Emily: “I really don’t know what this is. Are they rappers?”
Michelle: “Oh, it’s Jersey Shore. The only episode I saw, Snooki got punched in the face by a guy!”

Come see these ladies on Saturday at our NEW location, Cobblestone Hall.

Artist Spotlight: The Monkey and Me

Beth Allums, the mastermind behind The Monkey and Me, handcrafts children’s designs that reflect the spunk and personality of your unique little one.

What will you be selling at the Market, and what inspires you to make them?
I will be selling The Monkey and Me fun and funky children’s wear. I create clothing that suit a range of sweet and spunky personalities, that kids want to wear. My favorite customer compliment is when I hear that a little one ‘s favorite outfit is one of my peices and the one that they want to wear everyday.
I feature bright and colorful, nontraditional prints and fun fabrics, that wash and wear, for kids items that are fun, comfortable and grow with the child. I’ve pulled from my stash of favorite fabrics, found some new fresh prints, and been working hard behind my sewing machine to bring some great items to market for Raleigh’s hip youngsters. I ‘ll have girl’s reversible dresses, skirts, tees, onesies, bibs, and more. I can’t wait to return to Raleigh. I love The Handmade Market customers.

What’s your favorite new (or newish) art/craft/design blog?
I would have to say my girls from The Richmond Craft Mafia. Though I am now an alumni, I love keeping up with what the crew is up to.

What’s your favorite independently owned store in the Triangle area?
That’s a hard call, as I am a Richmond VA native, I am not too familiar with all of the awesome Triangle retailers, but I had a chance to visit Nofo at the Pig, and just loved it! What a wonderfully fun place! Raleigh is full of such wonderful shops and restaurants. If I ever left Richmond, Raleigh would be my next choice for certain. I love the Raleigh vibe.

Who’s your favorite Muppet?
Miss Piggy of course – she’s mouthy and bossy – like me

Mad Men or True Blood?
True Blood of course (my cousin Brad is Assistant Camera on the show)

Snooki, JWoww, or The Situation?
I have to say, I don’t really watch that Jersey Shore mess -I’m too busy sewing and catching up on my favorites on hulu in the studio- How about Jules from Cougartown? She’s my kind of girl.

Come see Beth’s highly anticipated return to designing kids wear this Saturday at our NEW location, Cobblestone Hall.
